Skyrim gets icy setting with er… mammoths

Looks like we may be getting a frozen northern world for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Set 200 years after Oblivion, it features…

“ice wraiths … mammoth, saber-toothed cats” … “Snow falls dynamically (not as a basic texture on the ground)”.

That’s logical since Skyrim is the northern icy realm that’s west of the Morrowind region and north of the land where Oblivion was set. And as someone who thought Morrowind‘s icy Bloodmoon expansion was very enjoyable I don’t mind in the slightest as long as they get the NPC accents right (Nords should not sound like they’re from Texas, as some did in Oblivion). But I suspect it might also be that the new game engine needs the grass and ground-cover kept to a minimum to get the best FPS on medium-range PCs?
