Top Skyrim developers talk

Ok, one last Skyrim link. For those who haven’t been following the fevered fan speculations on Skyrim for fear of spoilers and getting jaded by the time it finally arrives in November, here’s just one item you might be interested in — a new lengthy open feedback interview with the top Skyrim developers, and in response to fans not journalists. There are still some (what some might consider) spoilers, but also interesting nuggets like some details on the PC version…

“We’re packing a lot of info on the screen and the whole [PC] interface is much less ‘look at the giant fonts!’ than, say, Oblivion. The PC version also gets higher-res textures, larger render modes, and a bunch of other effects you can scale up if your machine is a beast. Last but most important, is the Creation Kit [aka ES Construction Kit] we’ll be releasing for the PC. Modding the game and making it your own is very important to us and our fans, so we’re going to keep doing whatever we can in that area.”

Fab German magazine cover.

Of course the Construction Kit is not just an add-on, it’s a key part of the game. Whereas most huge open worlds are empty and quickly boring, Morrowind and Oblivion showed how to get the PC fans to quickly fill it up with thousands of mods. I seem to remember that Oblivion had over 500 mods in the first week. I’d be willing to bet that Skyrim gets 800 or even 1,000 in that time. So here’s hoping it’s as fully featured as the old Construction Kits.
